Who needs couples therapy when you have couples training!

It has been said that couples who sweat together, grow together. So let the bonding begin!

Couples training is a great way to kindle and reinforce a relationship through fun, healthy, active participation, as well as creating and attaining shared goals. 

The Benefits of Exercise With Your Partner

1. Getting In Sync with One Another: When you work out together, you create a context in which you can coordinate your actions. For example, you might lift weights in rhythm with your partner, match your own walking or running pace with his or hers, or toss medicine balls back and forth. Such behavior creates nonverbal matching, or mimicry, which benefits you both (Stel & Vonk, 2010). Nonverbal mimicry helps people feel emotionally attuned with one another, and those who experience or engage in it tend to report greater feelings of having “bonded” with their partner. Exercising together provides an opportunity to create such connection, benefiting both your health and your relationship.

2. Your Fitness Goals Become More Attainable: When partners care about fitness—their own and their partner’s—it becomes easier to achieve fitness goals. A recent study of heterosexual couples showed that average-weight husbands who care about fitness engage in more physical activity when their wives offer more supportive health-related comments (Skoyen, Blank, Corkery, & Butler, 2013). Sharing in the ups and downs of a daily morning walk, a tough bike ride, ot a strenuous training class, can provide the perfect context for such comments. 

3. You Both Increase Your Happiness in Your Relationship: Lab studies show that after jointly participating in an exciting physical challenge or activity, couples report feeling more satisfied with their relationships and more in love with their partner (Aron, Norman, Aron, & Heyman, 2000). Exercise is a perfect example of the type of invigorating activity that can have these positive effects. It’s the physiological arousal, rather than the novelty or challenge of the activity, that drives romantic attraction (Lewandowski, & Aron, 2004)

4. Reduce Stress, and Arguments: Stress overload is a real killer of both physical and emotional intimacy. Fortunately however, research shows us that those who workout regularly are better able to handle the normal daily stresses, which we all face. Regular exercise also helps to improve your mood, and tends to reduce the fight or flight response to stress. This means less chance of getting into unnecessary arguments. To put all of this in context, we are generally better people to be around when we are fit, healthy and happy.

Don't worry if you and your partner are at different fitness or experience levels, a customized routine will be made to perfectly suit both partners needs.

Its About Being Healthy, and Having FUN, Together

Each one of my couple/partner fitness session includes a gentle warm-up, followed by a custom tailored workout, and is ended with a gradual cool down. This program is centered around couples getting fit together, so I also incorporate fun, and vigorous fitness games that can be shared between couples. I also throw in a little friendly competition by creating and incorporating FUN  partner challenges into these work outs!

After each workout you and your partner will leave you feeling accomplished, a little sweaty and most importantly,  having had a lot of FUN!
